About Lifeline

Lifeline Geelong & South West Victoria actively supports people in the communities to seek help in a way, a time and at a place that works for them. They help communities and people experiencing difficulty through accessible crisis support, counselling, education, community capacity building and referral services.

Trained crisis supporters listen without judgment, provide a safe space to discuss people’s needs, worries or concerns and work with individuals to explore options for support. Each crisis supporter is able to answer over 3,000 calls each year, contributing to supporting the 1.3 million calls Lifeline receive annually.

On the night

We will hear from Lifeline Geelong & South West Victoria General Manager Jason Doherty about the important work Lifeline does for our community and how businesses and individuals can get involved through their inaugural Giving Day Appeal. Moreover, guest speaker Jacqueline Kirman will be speaking as Lived Experience Lifeline Ambassador. Jacqueline reached out to Lifeline at a time of personal crisis and will share stories of her personal experience.

 

About Jacqueline Kirkman, Guest Speaker & Lived Experience Lifeline Ambassador

Jacqueline Kirkman is a Lived Experience Project Officer for Barwon Health, and researcher and educator in the optometry department at Deakin University. She is also a mother to one. Since experiencing postnatal psychosis in 2019, she has become passionate about mental health service reform. She has experienced a number of episodes of psychosis and had multiple admissions, both involuntary and voluntarily, in inpatient facilities across the Barwon South West region. She is determined to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness by sharing her story.

This event is FREE for Chamber members (category limits apply).
