Morris invests in Geelong’s Future: Common Ground Project Awarded $25,000 Morris Grant!
Morris, in partnership with the Geelong Chamber of Commerce, is thrilled to announce the $25,000 Morris Business Class Finance Grant has been awarded to Common Ground Project. The grant is designed to support and foster business growth in the Geelong region. This grant will empower Common Ground Project to enhance its mission of connecting and empowering the community through food and farming initiatives.
Founded with a commitment to sustainable practices, Common Ground Project operates as a regenerative farm and social enterprise located in Freshwater Creek. Their initiatives include offering an inclusive space for growing, cooking, knowledge sharing, and fostering community collaboration. The organisation runs hands-on workshops and training programs that not only educate participants about sustainable farming practices but also create employment pathways through their Food Knowledge programs. These efforts directly support food relief initiatives in the Geelong region, helping to address local food insecurity.
Felicity Jacob, CEO of Common Ground Project, expressed her gratitude, stating, “This grant will enable us to expand our regenerative farming initiatives and enhance our community programs. We believe in the power of food and farming to connect people, and this funding will help us continue to make a positive impact in Geelong. We’re deeply grateful for the support from Morris.”
148 applications for this grant were received and the submissions were assessed based on various criteria, including community impact, sustainability, and growth potential.
Nathan Murray, Managing Director & CEO of Morris, explained the rationale behind the grant: “At Morris, we understand the unique challenges faced by businesses in our community. With over 26 years of experience providing asset finance solutions, we wanted to create a tangible opportunity for local enterprises to access funding and resources that can drive their growth. The grant reflects our commitment to supporting businesses and making a positive impact on the community.” The submission from Common Ground Project stood out for its emphasis on community engagement and environmental stewardship. Nathan added, “We are excited to support their mission and watch them thrive.”
Jeremy Crawford from the Geelong Chamber of Commerce noted, “Common Ground Project exemplifies what it means to be a community-focused business. Their commitment to fostering growth and sustainability in our region is truly inspiring.”
With the funding from the Morris Business Class Finance Grant, Common Ground Project plans to enhance its existing programs, expand its outreach, and further contribute to the economic vitality of the Geelong community.
