Foreword

The Chamber's Strategic Plan 2007-2010 New Directions, recognizes the challenges facing business and industry in the coming years and the ever present need for leadership, direction and representation not only in Geelong but in the State and internationally.

More and more we see the multi-national companies previously well entrenched in the Geelong economy, moving off-shore where their businesses can thrive in more cost-effective environments.

More than ever, the Chamber, as the leading advocate for business in and for the region and with a major lobbying role, needs to strive to increase business opportunities  in the Geelong regionand strengthen support networks.

The Chamber is committed to building on its tradition of service and its achievements over the past 154 years and is aiming for more growth and influence by 2010 through its strategic priorities:

§  Advancing business and industry in the Geelong Region

§  Driving the knowledge economy

§  Growing and valuing its membership

§  Being part of an integrated drive and unified lobby of key Geelong stakeholders to ‘Put Geelong Region first’ and achieve as a Smart Region

Progress inevitably involves changes and adjustments. Over the next three years your Chamber will embrace change, will seek out opportunities and will work closely with others to present a unified approach to the needs of the Geelong Region.

This Strategic Plan serves as a guide to keep us moving in the right direction over the next 3 years and to ensure that the Chamber's stakeholders are aware of its intentions and its New Directions.
